Breaking the Mold

I love being a wedding photographer.

I’ll say it again and again and again, I LOVE being a Wedding Photographer. It’s been the most fun, challenging, crazy, heartbreaking, and rewarding things I’ve done.

I love collaborating with brides on art we create together. I love the getting to know you process. I love engagement and bridal sessions. I love seeing their faces on their wedding day. I love capturing their stories.

I love it!

But, despite me being super busy, pretty much, all the time… I’m not super busy with weddings ALL the time

There is a rush to photographing weddings and brides that I love… BUT I didn’t weddings and brides that I love… BUT I didn’t get into photography to exclusively photograph weddings. Add in the improvements I’ve had to my photography, my gear, and my editing… I’ve been loooving everything we’ve (me and my clients) produced lately… So, I want to share this beyond just the wedding and family community.

I love family sessions and I adore kiddos. I work with kiddos all the time and they’re wonderful! It’s a natural transition for a wedding photographer to go into family and portrait work as well. They get a great opportunity to stay connected with brides and grooms… plus you get some great connections with their bridesmaids and guests.

I thought ALOT about my brides and my mamas and my bridesmaids…. all of whom get wedding photos taken with someone else, who get family pics of them and only family pics… the gorgeous ladies who only have selfies b/c all the professional pics are of them with either their husbands, friends, or kiddos, and no one thinks to take a pic of them.

BUT, not everyone has kiddos. Not everyone has a spouse or partner either.

I wanted something that could connect more with someone on a personal level. I adore nurturing the relationship with my brides and I always intend to maintain the relationship with the bride after the wedding day.

I love the new faces I meet at the wedding and I would love to have something to offer them as well.

I also started thinking more about the struggles I’ve had with my self image and the ways I’ve been embracing and loving myself lately.

Then, I thought more about the portrait session I had back in January and how AMAZING it felt to get pics taken of just me, for just me and how I wanted to use them. I thought about how photography in general makes me feel.

So… I’m breaking the mold.

Y’all know I’ve started offering Boudoir photography… I’ve done a Galentine’s Day Event where I photographed 26 VERY different women in their lingerie… I did a few shoots solo…and I did my Boudie weekend in Houston…. and HOLY MOLY… does Boudoir photography feel AMAZING!!!

During my Houston boudie weekend, I had an opportunity to catch up with a badass woman I went to High School with, Mallory. Bubbly, Friendly, Amazing Soccer Star, and uber smart, Mallory was one of five women I seriously admired in my graduating class. Seventeen years later, she’s still a smart, athletic, bubbly, and friendly person she was…. but now she had the title of “Engineer”. :-)

A female engineer, and an oil and gas engineer at that, OMG, that is crazy cool! Mallory has had a myriad of amazing opportunities including speaking and educational events where she empowers other young women go into STEM and join a male dominated workforce. She loves doing what she does and she does it well!

But, working in a male-dominated industry can have it’s drawbacks. She is working in a very male dominated industry and is sometimes sent to remote locations across the country. During our session, she told me about this time where she arrived at her location and it was CLEAR that the people there hadn’t seen a woman in a LONG time.

”They would just STARE at you,” she said, giggling.

But, also, there is the typical stigma about women…. meaning there are times when she, me, literally every woman feels she’s not taken as seriously as their male counterparts. And if she wears makeup or does something to look more attractive, she’s taken less seriously. Mallory is an exceptionally beautiful person inside and out…who happens to be overrun with masculine things on a daily basis.

I needed to give her this opportunity to tap into her feminine side.

Oh man, did her feminine side come out.

Mallory arrived at our location at a very early hour in some comfy jeans and a big puffy jacket. She looked alot like the soccer player I knew in high school…. Always the planner, Mallory brought a HUGE bag full of uber cute outfits and ideas of things she could use during the session. She nervously sat in the makeup chair and quickly relaxed as her hair and makeup were done. We chatted about super silly things like dogs, San Antonio, what we’ve been up to… when the makeup artist was finished…. Mallory the Soccer Player and Engineer became Mallory… the badass babe who deserves so much respect and admiration.

By the end… she kept asking “where can I go and keep this feeling going for the rest of the day?!??!”

The proof of how amazing she felt is obvious in the pics.

hehehe

I’m SO thrilled I was able to do this for Mallory. <3 We both seriously broke our mold that Saturday and we’re both SO happy with the end result!

“I just did a Boudie session with Caity and it was so much fun! She did a great job making sure I got glammed up right with hair, makeup, and lots of outfits to choose from. It was perfect how she eased into the boudie shoot, starting small, getting me comfortable, and then going all in. It wasn’t long before we were laughing and getting great shots without that nervous look on my face! This was so much fun to do. I have someone special to share my photos with, but I would also suggest this for anyone that just wants to capture their beauty and feel empowered. Such a great Saturday!”
